About
Doris Namala, PhD, is a professor of history at Riverside City College, where she teaches United States, Mexican, and Latin American History. She earned her doctorate from UCLA with a focus on Colonial Latin American History and specializes in Indigenous (Nahuatl) language-driven research. In all her courses, Namala is committed to decentering traditional Eurocentric narratives and elevating the voices and experiences of Indigenous, Black, Asian American, and Latinx communities. Deeply engaged with students both inside and outside the classroom, she frequently leads field trips to the Cheech Museum in downtown Riverside and collaborates with the Languages, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences Engagement Center. Through her inclusive teaching and active mentorship, Namala creates learning spaces rooted in critical inquiry, cultural relevance, and community connection.
